Usher's New Look

by: Star Journal Access

The East New York after school program operating in the Pink Senior Center facility, Children for Children and the HandsOn Network all seem to have something in common: Usher's new look and his youth service organization that support youth grant services for young people.

Joan Washington of the Pink Senior Center and Mr. Banks, the Executive Director of Concern Citizens of East New York put their efforts together to support the youth of the after-school program by bridging the generational gap between youth and seniors citizens through poetry and cultural arts in East New York.  Linking all these organizations together are the talent of young authors Kioana Washington (left photo) and Randi-Marie (right photo) along with other members of Kioana and Randi-Marie's girls club, who meet on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Usher has a great attitude toward successful youth when it comes to children providing services for their own communities and recognizes local celebrities like young Kioana and Randi-Marie.

Networking for Life on Facebook

by: Star Journal Access

Facebook.com seems to be leading the trend with respect to the average time a person spends online with social networks.  In the last quarter of 2009 the average time spent on facebook's social network was 27.7 minutes per day.  That's almost a half an hour.

Networking for Life! is a new group on facebook for those looking to make lasting business and social connections with New Yorkers and their networking contacts.  As facebook continues to make strides with their online networking platform, online business strategies are likely to increase their market share by at least 20 percent.

Recession Buster:  The Grass is Greener on the Other Side

by: Star Journal Access

Small businesses and home-based business owners are finding cost-effective ways to beat the economy by planning events and hosting them on the grassroots level within their own homes and apartments as a means to cut costs.  Representatives of Mary Kay, Avon, Quixstar and even political groups have been known to perform in this manner, proving that operating on the grassroots level is a sure way to put a president in the white house and green back into the business, allowing individuals to save that same money that would typically go towards renting or leasing other venues.

Recession free venues may included the living room or basement for small get-togethers, parties and events.  The garage is also a consideration, as some home garage space can hold a good number of quality people. And when the weather permits, the lawn or patio are excellent for entertaining expected guests.  Just make sure that patrons make reservations in advance and make a commitment with seeds of faith to pay any cover charges in advance so that amenities and adequate safety precautions are provided.  Allowing walk-ins who want to pay at-the-door is not advisable.  Stick to your paid guest list.

The grassroots movement is its own natural built-in communications system and can lead to economic significance for individuals and small home-based businesses.  That in turn helps local communities. Getting back to the grassroots fundamentals and having an innovative mindset all start within, then branches out to community levels that allow individuals to become grassroots economic heroes as they provide products, services, entertainment and position themselves as an economic solution to their communities in which they serve.
